South Platte Studies Process

A river’s journey down the mountains, carving canyons, meandering through meadows, and seeping through cities echoes humanity in its beauty and sorrow. This in-progress body of work provides a detailed profile of the South Platte River in central and northern Colorado. The images presented explore the relationship between place and humanity’s connectedness to the earth through spirituality. The work was conceived out of an obsessive curiosity with the landscape surrounding the South Platte River and its natural history that then evolved into a spiritual journey to understand the significance of rivers within the tales of the beginning of time. The ritualistic return to these places produces a series of photographs that follows the South Platte River from its origins to Elevenmile Canyon and Cheesman Reservoir. The intention is to continue photographing the river as it flows north to Nebraska.

Making sure I have all my gear before I take off on an excursion. There is nothing worse than getting to your shooting location just to find out you are missing a piece of equipment.
